Household smoke and CO alarm services
Understand the equipment, authorized work and records involved in an alarm service visit.
The former Charleston-area site described these household services. Current service availability, staffing and pricing have not been verified.
Start with the equipment
The archived site covered battery-powered, hardwired, interconnected and smart household alarms. For a current visit, identify the device type, model and location before agreeing the work. Record any relevant age or replacement information.
A smoke alarm, a CO alarm and a component of a wider fire-alarm system should not be treated as interchangeable. The equipment and task determine the scope.
Agree the work before the visit
State which maintenance, tests or replacements are included, who is authorized to perform them, and how work outside the agreed scope is referred. Arrange access and identify the person who can approve further work.
Any wiring work or hardwired equipment installation needs the appropriately qualified person. Follow the actual equipment instructions when checking compatibility or planning replacement.
Keep a useful service record
- Identify the device and location.
- Record the authorized task and its result.
- Distinguish replacements from checks and referrals.
- Record inaccessible equipment and incomplete work.
- Assign a person to each unresolved finding.
